Communicate to Connect
In business, we often confuse communication with information delivery. Slides are polished. Data is accurate. Messages are clear. And yet, connection is missing.
Connection is what transforms information into influence. Executives who create connection help employees, clients, and prospects feel understood. This emotional engagement drives attention, trust, and action.
Connection starts with your intent. Before any meeting or presentation, ask: What do I want my audience to think, feel, and do? When you focus only on what you want to say, you deliver content. When you focus on how your audience experiences what you say, you create a deeper connection.
Connection also requires presence. Eye contact, vocal variety, purposeful pauses, and genuine curiosity signal that you are engaged and not rotely speaking. We tend to more positively respond to leaders who seem human, not perfect.
Ultimately, information informs while connection inspires. And in today’s business environment, inspiration is what moves organizations forward.
